HOW WE GROW IT
SHOCHOCH TRADING grows coffee on its own coffee plantation in the forest of Bench Maji. This method of growing coffee allows the production of high-quality, specialty coffee varieties to buyers at a much competitive price and deliver on a timely basis. Shcoch also work closely with local and national farmers’ cooperative unions to source different types of washed and natural (unwashed) coffees and create market opportunities for their products at premium price. Such method of sourcing coffee from smallholders is based on set standards and involves our input at different stage of coffee production while creating a strong incentive in all stakeholders to protect the forest and become specialty farmers that can change their lives. Coffees from our farm and smallholders are categorized as wild coffees, forest coffees, and semi forest coffees.
In addition to this, we work closely with other coffee suppliers which will allow us to source products and meet client’s requirements in terms of quality and quantity. This vertically integrated method is based on Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority’s marketing regulations, which makes it possible for the suppliers to deliver directly to us without entering the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX). Thus, we have many suppliers at hometown in Bench Sheko zone and beyond who have agreed with us to deliver their coffees at a better price than ECX. This direct trade also helps importers in terms of traceability.
